The Green Engineering Building is a proposed new addition to Waltham Forest College, currently in planning, designed to deliver high-quality education in low-carbon construction, retrofit, and renewable energy engineering. Replacing outdated workshops, the five-storey building will consolidate specialist laboratories, classrooms, and workshops for carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and bricklaying into a single, collaborative hub for new green construction skills. The consolidated workshops also free up the west courtyard, creating a new space of wellbeing with outdoor planting, sustainable drainage and an outdoor gym for students.

The scheme supports the UK’s drive for green skills and net zero, representing a vital investment in sustainable education infrastructure. It will create a high-performance, future-ready environment that underpins climate-responsive growth and skills development in green industries.

Constructed primarily from Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) to minimise embodied carbon, the building combines passive design strategies with green roofs, natural ventilation, and pollinator-friendly landscaping to achieve outstanding environmental performance. A new landscaped quad will provide outdoor amenity for students and staff, while integrated cycling facilities and improved pedestrian access reinforce the College's sustainable transport strategy.
