Kelross Road is a compact infill family house in Highbury, Islington, replacing a run of five garages and turning area with a 3-bedroom home. The project is conceived as a precise piece of urban repair—stitching together a fragmented edge condition and re-establishing a coherent street frontage between the apartment building at 58–60 Kelross Road and the adjoining presbytery and mews.

The design is driven by a calm two-storey volume and a disciplined series of setbacks that temper scale and improve the public realm. A sequence of outdoor rooms—an intimate front garden/courtyard and a private rear amenity space—brings changing natural light and outlook deep into the plan, making the home feel generous despite the constrained brownfield plot. Materially, the scheme takes cues from the area’s brick character, using a stone brick façade and bio-based insulation to form breathable, high thermal-mass walls, complemented by sculptural stone lintels. Biodiversity enhancements and an all-electric strategy are integrated throughout, with building services discreetly accommodated.
